His dance
moves brought him into the limelight with Chiranjeevi's Daddy. Then he
went on to create history when his debut film was screened in 54 centres
for 100 days. Now five films later, Allu Arjun continues to set new
records at the box office, this time with Desamudru. But the actor wears
his stardom casually, doesn't hesitate to speak his mind, and is rather
shy about flaunting his filmy lineage- he is the nephew of superstar
Chiranjeevi and his father, Allu Aravind, is considered a marketing genius
by the industry. Arjun doesn't think twice before stepping onto the street
to guide us 'arms flapping' as we lose our way to his office. Doesn't he
worry about being mobbed? 'I didn't really think about that,' he says,
quite unassumingly.
At the
moment though, the spotlight is also on the new look that he sported in
his latest offering. The six-pack abs and the long tresses have inspired
curiosity and comment. He guffaws, 'Having a good body has become a
default prerequisite for an actor. You will also see this in Bollywood.
But, here in Tollywood, though there are talented actors, we don't really
concentrate on our looks. Someone had to start this awareness, and I
jumped at the opportunity. |
Besides, who
doesn't appreciate a good body?' he explains. As the conversation veers
towards Tollywood, Arjun says,
Everybody has a place in Tollywood. There is place for
more, but what matters is whether you have created a good film. So is he
into the number game? 'Yes, I am! I am part of the rat race. Besides, you
have no choice. Whether you like it or not, there will be a list and you
are bound to be part of the rating,' he admits. What about competition
within the family? Charan, his cousin, is currently shooting for his debut film. Arjun leaves
no scope for further probing as he categorically states,
'Charan is the next superstar. He is my brother and
I will help him get there'

Arjun is
also a regular on the party-circle and loves letting his hair down. 'Why
not? We are actors, not aliens. We work very hard and want to have some
fun too. I enjoy being out there and having a good time with my friends,'
he says. 'There is too much ado about nothing and thanks to all this
unwanted attention, I am grounded man. My parents have told me to stay
home,' he says with a smile. But he is quick to admit that though he loves
partying, he is also completely focused on his career. 'I am lucky to know
what I want to do at the age of 23 and I am not going to lose this
opportunity. |
|
I know I have to
work my ass off to own that sports car that I have always dreamt of,' says Arjun who admits candidly that he is here
to make money. 'Yes, films are my passion but I am clear that every film
of mine has to be a success financially. Every person associated with the
film should go back home with an extra buck than what he put in,' he
explains. And how involved is his father in career? 'The final call on a
script is my father's and I also seek advice from Chiranjeevi garu,' he
elaborates.
