Happy
is Peppy
All
Allu Arjun’s movies so far were not just hits but musical hits too.
Keeravani [Gangotri] and Devi Sri Prasad [Arya, Bunny] embellished Arjun’s
movies with good music and Yuvan Shankar Raja continues that tradition
with Happy as well. To say that Happy has peppy music is no exaggeration.
There are pretty good chances that Yuvan, who is Tamil film industry’s
busiest and most sought after music director, may become popular with
Telugu music lovers not just as Ilayaraja’s son but as a promising music
director.
1.
Chal chal re
Put your hands together to applaud Yuvan for this energetic number about
Hyderabad. Viswa’s lyrics about the past and present of Hyderabad state
succinctly about the way Hyderabad is burgeoning into a new haven for
people to pursue their dreams. Clinton’s animated singing packs a punch. A
peppy song about happy and happening Hyderabad.
2.
Egire Mabbulalona
With melody as its base, arresting orchestration as its forte, and
riveting rhythm as its asset, this composition of Yuvan shows what he is
capable of. SP Charan, though made to sing this song in a high pitch for
most part, sounds pleasant. The coming together of two music veterans (Ilayaraja
and SPB) kids is quite a treat actually. Kulasekhar’s lyrics about the guy
realizing that he is in love are neat.
3.
Happy
This title song written by Chandrabose, in his inimitable style, deals
with the hero, who distances himself from love and a lover, giving love
fundas, like a saint who talks about worldly matters but remains
unperturbed by them, to his buddies. With a haunting thematic music, and
Karthik’s captivating voice, this one’s as cool as a cucumber.
4.
I hate you
Even though there is so much hatred, exchanged through Anantha Sriram’s
words, in this song, you wouldn’t hate the song. Actually, this quirky yet
catchy number in the perfect vocals of Ranjith and Vasundhara Das holds
its own mainly because of the singers. But for some jarring streaks here
and there, Yuvan composes the song with good orchestration, especially the
dappu instrumental towards the end.
5.
Nee Kosam
Shankar Mahadevan sings this number, written by Seetharama Sastry, with
right pitch bringing out the emotion quite well. Though this is the only
un-happy number in this album it has a good beat and a wonderful alaap by
Shankar in the second interlude. Another beautiful composition by Yuvan.
6. Ossa Ossa
Such teen maar songs have now become a must in Arjun’s movies but
if they are this lively then there is no complaining. Jassi Gift, now a
regular for such songs, sings this one accompanied by Suchitra. Given
their stimulating rendition, this number, written by Pothula Ravi Kiran,
may become popular instantly.
Analysis: Even though all the songs except, I
hate you, are short with a play time of less than 4 minutes, most of them
are instant winners. Call it peppy, funky, or rambunctious; there is no
denying that this album will rule the roost for many weeks to come.
Welcome Yuvan, you made us happy with Happy and make us happier in the
future as well.
